Max Bennett is a West Coast bassist. I first heard him on Frank Zappa`s "Hot Rats" LP, then later heard him on George Harrison`s "Dark Horse" LP. I recently have been getting into his playing on the Tom Scott and the LA Express CD. Max and drummer John Guerin make quite a rhythm section, and the bass is way up front.

To me, his playing is firmly rooted in the tradition of Chuck Rainey and James Jamerson. Only a fine musician could work with such diverse artists as Max did, and his great bass lines are so well put together.
